Our school mass for the Confirmation candidates was held on Thursday in the school hall. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Hannon and attended by parents, grandparents and friends of the children.

5th and 6th class celebrated through song and prayer with their classmates and afterwards with some treats and goodies!

Thank you to their teachers, Mrs. McLernon and Mr. O’Sullivan for having the children so well prepared to receive this important sacrament.

Proclamation Day 15th March 2016

DSCN4987

The school community gathered together today to commemorate the events of 1916, to celebrate the present and to imagine the future.

The 1916 Proclamation was read by children from the Senior Classes. We then read our ‘Proclamation for a new generation’ in which the children themselves examined how they would like to see Ireland change and evolve over the next 100 years.

In our ‘new’ Proclamation, the children called for an end to homelessness, crime and war. They envision an Ireland where everybody, young and old can always feel happy and safe and where everyone is treated respectfully and equally, regardless of our differences, and where the role of technology does not overshadow family time and time for others.

The entire school gathered outside where our wonderful secretary, Patty, accompanied by her grandchildren, current pupils, Ella and Luke, raised the flag. 5th and 6th class played Amhrán na bhFiann on tin whistle as we all sang along to our National Anthem.

To conclude the ceremony, 6th Class pupil Ciarán Dunne read a poem he had written especially to commemorate the 1916 Rising.

Celebrating World Book Day

BOOKS

Kilberry N.S. celebrated World Book Day by inviting the children to bring in their favourite book to discuss with their class. Each child was also given a book token on the day so remember to bring it in to your local book store to receive a free book or money off a book of your choice.

Happy reading..!!!

Catholic School’s Week

We celebrated Catholic School’s Week and the beginning of Spring with a prayer service on St. Brigid’s Day and a Lenten prayer service during which, Áine Egan (Pastoral Worker) distributed blessed ashes with the assistance of Mrs. Prendergast.

All classes were represented during the prayer services as children were invited to bring gifts/symbols to the altar and take part in the prayers and readings.

Be Water Smart!

water

We are currently working towards getting our third Green Flag for Water.

To conserve water in our school, we:

  • Use rain water, which is collected by our water butt, to wash paintbrushes, do science experiments, water our plants and more!
  • Check to ensure that taps are always turned off properly – a dripping tap can waste a lot of water!
  • Placed 4  x 250ml bottles of water into each toilet cistern – every time a toilet is flushed, 1 litre of water is saved

The 4th and 5th class members of the Water Committee recently attended the Green-Schools Water Forum which took place in the Osprey Hotel in Naas. They shared their ideas with other Water Committees around the county and learned many new water saving tips to bring back to our school. A great day out was had by all!
