As the end of another school term draws to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone in our school community who has contributed in making our school a welcoming, happy and safe learning environment for all our pupils. We have worked hard to implement the Department of Education and Public Health guidelines, while trying to maintain routine and a sense of normality for the children. I would like to thank all parents and pupils for their co-operation and support throughout the term and a special mention to our senior pupils who have adapted so quickly to the introduction of face coverings. The children continue to amaze us with their resilience and we thank everyone for their co-operation.

The children and staff have worked hard to bring a snapshot of the school’s Christmas spirit to all parents and grandparents at home through our virtual Christmas show. We are very proud of all the children’s performances and we hope you enjoy the show which will be sent out to all parents via Aladdin today. We strongly recommend that you download the show before watching to ensure the best quality picture. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the teachers for their work in assembling the show and to Ms. Lacey for filming, editing and capturing the essence of Christmas here in Kilberry on screen. We would also like to warmly thank Shane Sullivan and Music Generation Kildare. The children are really enjoying learning to play the ukulele and we were delighted to showcase a small snippet of their progress this term. Thank you also to Vincent Crowley for his help with the music and instrumental segments of the show.

Please continue to contact the school if your child tests positive for Covid19. If your child was in school 48 hours before the onset of symptoms, pupils in your child’s pod will be offered free antigen tests. As always, we ask parents to be vigilant for signs and symptoms of covid-19. We understand that children will inevitably have seasonal colds and flus but we ask everyone to err on the side of caution and keep children at home until symptoms subside.

Please be advised that schools are still obliged to return details of pupil attendance to Tusla. We are also obliged to provide details explaining pupil absence. Therefore, it is imperative that parents provide an explanation of absence which can be done through Aladdin. Please note that a reason listed as ‘other’ must be accompanied by a brief note of explanation.

Our clothes collection was very successful and raised 596 euro for the school. We would like to thank everyone for their support and a big thank you to Trevor Henderson, Cecilia, Linda, Christy Byrne and Paddy Kelly for their assistance in moving and sorting the bags. It was a very early start on collection day!
