Cumann na mBunscol Basketball League

Our boy’s and girl’s basketball teams have completed the first leg of their Cumann na mBunscol semi-finals with both teams facing very tough opposition. The standard in the league has been very high this year and both teams have played exceptionally well to reach the semi-final stage.

The girls played Tiermohan N.S. last week and will play them again next Thursday, 29th January away. Tip off is 1pm.

Our boys team came up against a very well organised and skilful Rathcoffey side yesterday and played brilliantly to leave us ahead by four points going into the second semi-final game next week. This game will be played Wednesday, 28th January in the A.R.C.H. Tip off is 3.10pm. Players will need to be dropped and collected by their parents.

Active Flag

We are so proud to have our Active Flag flying in our school. The children had a wonderful day celebrating our fantastic achievements with a jersey day, Zumba lesson, music and treats from the Parents Council.  We were honoured to have Kildare GAA Football star Dermot Early raise our new flag. He spoke about the importance of sport and gave Kasey McConville words of advice as she joins the U12 Kildare football squad.  We are delighted that so many people were able to join us for this day. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make the day as special as it was. A very special thank you to Rheban GFC who presented the school with 12 Gaa football which will be put to great use in the upcoming months!

This flag would not have been possible without our schools active committee and dedication of our teachers especially Louise Browne who were the driving force behind this flag. A huge thank you to everyone who has has been involved in achieving our flag .

Active Flag will be raised on Friday the 15th March at 12.45 p.m. All parents welcome for cuppa and refreshments after. Check school bag for note.

The school was informed by Mark Wall this morning that €30,000 funding has been promised from NTA for development of school car park! Many many thanks to both Mark and Jack for all their work on our behalf. A decision is due on the planning application on 31st March 2013.

Reminder – Parent teacher meetings are on Monday 11th February starting 3.15pm. School will finish at normal times.

Many  congratulations to the Girls Basketball team who, for the first time in the history of Cummann na mBunscoile Small Schools League, have won the basketball tournament. Its a fantastic achievement for everyone who was involved with both teams. A special word of thanks in particular to Ms Browne ( 1st/2nd class teacher) and Mrs McLernon (Junior/ Senior Infant teacher) who have given up their own free time to set up the basketball club and to train both the boys and girls teams. Well done also to our boys team who reached the semi finals!
