Congratulations and well done to all who participated in the Kilberry N.S. walk. The walk took place on Sunday, 26th April in Emo Court and we were blessed with some beautiful weather on the day. The children arrived in fancy dress for the occasion which added some colour and fun to the 5K walk. Congratulations to Caoimhín O’Shaughnessy and Shauna Costello who won ‘Best Costume’ on the day, kindly sponsored by the Parent’s Council. A huge thank you to the Parent’s Council for organising the walk on behalf of the school and to all who sponsored the children. The generosity of everyone is greatly appreciated.

Family Day Out...

Family Day Out…

First Penance

Congratulations to all our Second Class pupils on the occasion of their First Penance. This was a very special day for the children and their families as they gathered together to witness this important sacrament. The children were very well prepared by their teacher, Mrs. Prendergast and were very busy in the lead up to the day learning all their prayers and songs.
The Sacred Space in the church has been beautifully decorated for Lent by the children, with the help of Mrs. Prendergast and is well worth a visit.

Cumann na mBunscol Basketball Champions 2015!!

Our boy’s team travelled to Newbridge last Thursday to play Kilashee N.S. in the Cumann na mBunscol Basketball final. This was a great occasion for the boys and we started strongly putting 4 points up on the scoreboard during the first quarter. Damien and Kevin were calm under pressure as they stepped up to the free throw line to put Kilberry ahead. We continued to dominate in the second quarter and went in to the second half with a ten point lead.
Kilashee, however, began to cause problems in the third quarter and our lead was reduced to six points going into the final quarter. Kilashee began to show their hand and pushed Kilberry all the way to the final whistle. They managed to claw back a couple of points from free throws but as we approached the final few minutes of the game, Kilberry dug deep and our defense held strong as the final whistle blew to the delight of the Kilberry team and supporters.
Joe O’Connor presented the trophy to team captain, Kevin Eustace and complimented Kilberry and Kilashee on a fantastic display of basketball skill. In a display of sincere sportsmanship, the Kilashee team asked Kilberry for a group photograph after the presentation and we anticipate an exciting rematch with them during the blitz in March.
Team: Kevin Eustace (Capt.), Darragh Foy, Scott Downey, Jamie Whelan, Dean Owens, Seamus Hickey, Christopher Wilson, Emmet Fanning, Ciarán Dunne, Cian McKenna, Alex Delaney and Damien Moore.

We wish them the very best of luck as they tackle the mucky terrain and obstacles of the course which includes a maze, tunnel of doom, cargo net, great wall, Thornhill pyramid, tyre squeeze and swamp crawl!!
They are participating in this madness for the children of our school so please give them your support and encouragement..
Thank you to the Parent’s Council for promoting the event on behalf of the school and good luck to Mrs. Dempsey who will also be taking part on the day. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat!

Semi-final in the Snow!!!

Our girl’s basketball team played the second leg of the league semi-final against Tiermohan N.S. yesterday. As they sang ‘Let it Go’ on the bus to the match, little did we know we could have literally been building snowmen by the end of the game!
Our girls battled hard as snow began to gently fall during the first half of the match and we were just one point behind going into the second half. We were unlucky at times as our shots just couldn’t seem to find the hoop. The girls fought bravely the whole way to the end but it was to be Tiermohan’s day.
We, the coaches are immensely proud of each and every one of our girls. They have played wonderfully throughout the league and it is a huge achievement to reach the semi-final stage. We have the blitz to look forward to in March and Kilberry Girls will make formidable opponents!!!

Team: Kerri McConville, Amber Shaw, Lauren Webb, Katie Whelan, Ellie Smithers, Daisy Mae Brady, Erica Griffin, Noelle Bartley, Maeve Keatley, Megan Cummins, and Marcella Davis

Boys Book Place in Basketball Final!!

Our boy’s basketball team secured a place in the Cumann na mBunscol basketball final today, defeating Rathcoffey N.S. This was an exciting game throughout and both teams were impressive on the day. Kilberry got the opening basket of the game, but Rathcoffey swiftly replied with two well-taken shots. However, Kilberry’s defense held strong and we responded with a wonderful basket to leave just a point between the teams at half time.
The scene was set for a thrilling second half and spectators were not disappointed as both teams pressed hard. Kilberry began to take control of the game in the closing few minutes and ran out deserving winners in the end.
There was an impressive display of talent and skill from both teams today and the boys are now looking forward to the final where they will meet Kilashee N.S.
