Water Action Day 2016

Kilberry N.S. held their Water Action Day today to consolidate our efforts as a ‘Green School’ as we work towards our third green flag for water. Kilberry turned blue as all staff and pupils wore blue clothing for our action day.

Experiments on the theme of water were conducted in the school hall by members of the water committee and each class had an opportunity to see the experiments in action.

Following this, we had a ‘Walk for Water’ which saw each class walk 1km carrying 14 litres of water to raise awareness of the challenges facing men, women and children in developing countries as they walk up to 5miles every day in search of safe drinking water. Each family was asked to bring in 2 euro and as a result we are proud to announce that Kilberry are giving the ‘gift of water’ in conjunction with Trocaire to children in Africa.

Congratulations to 5th and 6th class who will receive their Junior Entrepreneur Flag on Wednesday, 11th May for their project work. For their efforts, the children have won a trip to Tayto Park in Meath.

Congratulations also to all the children, and in particular the water committee for their efforts in attaining the school’s third green flag for water! This is a huge achievement.

Well done to all involved and to Ms. Carter and Mr. O’Sullivan for co-ordinating the two flags.

Confirmation Mass

Our school mass for the Confirmation candidates was held on Thursday in the school hall. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Hannon and attended by parents, grandparents and friends of the children.

5th and 6th class celebrated through song and prayer with their classmates and afterwards with some treats and goodies!

Thank you to their teachers, Mrs. McLernon and Mr. O’Sullivan for having the children so well prepared to receive this important sacrament.
