Trick or Treat for Temple Street!

Trick-or-treat-20121

The corridors of Kilberry N.S. were awash with weird and wonderful costumes on Friday last. Super Mario, Mary Poppins, Minions as well as witches, devils and ghosts took control of the school (and that was just the teachers!) The Mad Hatter, Zombie brides, clowns and werewolves were on the prowl as the children raised funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. We raised 197 Euro for this wonderful charity….

Let’s Play Volleyball…

The children from second-sixth class have been learning the skills of volleyball over the past seven weeks under the guidance of Tom Landers from the Newbridge Volleyball Club. Over the past few weeks the children have learned lots of different techniques, including the overhand catch, the correct serving technique and were introduced to the game of Catch and Throw Volleyball.
Today, Tom organised a Volleyball Tournament for the children, complete with medals for the winners and runners up. The classes were split into teams of four and the whole school was on hand to watch the highly competitive semi-finals and finals. A wonderful day was had by all and the teachers were very impressed by the skills on display.

1916 Commemoration

The staff and pupils of Kilberry N.S. were delighted today to receive a visit by members of the Defence Forces to deliver the National Flag to our school as part of the preparations for the 1916 Commemorations.
The Department of Education and Skills intends that all 3,200 primary schools will receive a visit, to prepare for a display of the Tricolour by students on Proclamation Day, March 15th, 2016.
The official presentation of the flag was made by Lieutenant Hurley and Corporal Davis, and our Senior Infant pupils, Emily Mitchell and Cayden McBride accepted the flag on behalf of our school.
The presentation included a brief history of the national flag and the correct protocol for its use.
Lieutenant Hurley, accompanied by 6th Class pupil, Cian McKenna read part of the Proclamation. Cian read paragraph four of the document, beginning with: “The Irish Republic is entitled to, and hereby claims, the allegiance of every Irishman and Irishwoman . . .”
Preparations for the 2016 Commemorations will continue in our school throughout the year as the Senior pupils will be learning about Ireland in the Twentieth Century and the history of the Rising.

Jersey Day!!

download

Kilberry N.S. will hold a Jersey Day for Goal to help raise much needed funds for those suffering the dreadful effects of War and Famine. We have all witnessed the terrible scenes on television and horrific images in the newspapers, and the children of Kilberry N.S. want to help! They are holding a Jersey Day on the 18th September and each child is asked to contribute 2 euro to the fund. If your child wishes to donate more that is completely at the parent’s discretion.
So….dust off those G.A.A.(Westmeath!!!), Soccer (Manchester Utd!!!) and Basketball jerseys and wear them proudly on September 18th!

Good Luck ‘Dazzy’!!

darren

Best Wishes to our past pupil, Darren Lawlor as he lines out for the Kildare Minor Football team on Sunday in the All-Ireland Minor Semi-Final in Croke Park. Even though the Kildare team will take on Tipperary, on this occasion, even Mrs. Prendergast will forsake her native county to cheer on Darren and the Lilywhites!!

Good Luck Darren from all the Staff and Pupils in Kilberry N.S.
