‘Feet First Friday’ Launch

Friday the 24th March marked the beginning of our weekly walk, cycle, scoot or carpool to school day! We started off the day with some music and welcomed everyone with a cheer. With the sun shining and big smiles from children and adults alike, it was a fantastic start to the day.

Karen Moore, our travel officer, joined us shortly after to begin our scooter safety workshops. The children loved scooting around the yard through obstacle courses, racing each other and learning how to do an emergency stop!

3rd and 4th class learning some scooting skills

After lunch, we had a short assembly to announce which class had won the competition. Well done to first and second class who had the highest percentage of children that traveled to school an environmentally friendly way! It was a tight competition and the other classes were very close behind!

A huge thank you to all of you who made this day a success! All pupils and staff were delighted with the amount of families that participated. A special thank you to those brought in and shared their scooters with others for the day – the workshops couldn’t have gone ahead without you!

We look forward to your continued support with Feet First Friday! If you would like more information on Green Schools, please see the Green Flag section on this site or go to https://greenschoolsireland.org/

u13 Cumann na mBunscol Football League

images (1)Our u13 Football League got underway on Tuesday as we played Athgarvan in the first round in Rheban pitch. We are very fortunate in Kilberry N.S. to have a hugely supportive club nearby that allows our school access to their pitch and facilities for our home games. We are very appreciative of the support we receive.

Our u13’s team put in a tremendous team performance to run out one point victors over a strong and determined Athgarvan side. The game came right down to the wire as Athgarvan kept the pressure on but some excellent saves from goalkeeper, TJ Moran, combined with our strong and determined backline, our experienced mid fielders and forward line ensured victory in the end. Well done to all!

The team now play Scoil Mhicil Naofa in the next round.

Calling All Super Troopers!

super

Super Troopers is a new programme that aims to incorporate a minimum of 10 minutes exercise into every child’s daily routine. Here in Kilberry N.S. we will be following the programme over the next few months. Active homework will be part of each child’s homework every night!

How it works:

Each child will receive an activity journal which is divided into 4 week blocks. Each week there are daily activities to complete at home. Each activity should take 10-15 minutes.

Each night simply tick the box to show that you have completed a daily activity.  You can change the  activity to suit your own child/environment to e.g. jumping jacks/frog jumps/ jogging on the spot etc. Whatever works for you! There is also a box to fill in any additional exercise your child completes each day e.g. football, basketball club, swimming etc.

It’s easy….Simply sign the journal each week to show your child has followed the programme.

Our Active Committee will record the progress of each class.

Those who complete the programme successfully will receive their certificates and prize during Active Week .

Families can join in the Active fun with the Super Trooper Wallchart… Simply record each family member’s exercise and active activities each week and find out who will be your family’s Fittest Member! (Don’t Worry wallcharts are for home use only!)

“Now we have our Active Flag ,

Do not let your Effort Sag,

Up You Get, Do your Bit,

Help Kilberry to Stay Fit!”

Some come on Kilberry…. Who will be Kilberry’s Fittest Class come June!!!!!

Catholic Schools’ Week 2017

images

The theme for Catholic Schools Week this year is Catholic Schools: Learning with Pope Francis to Care for Our Common Home. Here in Kilberry N.S. we have been celebrating Catholic Schools Week through art, song and prayer.

Fr. Hannon joined in our whole school Prayer Service on Wednesday in celebration of St. Brigid’s Day and Catholic Schools Week.

The children, led by Mrs. Prendergast, read and sang beautifully and the Senior Classes collaborated to provide the music on tin whistle.

All of the beautiful artwork the children created over the week was on display for our prayer service.
